MDS Monday – Map It Out

I love to play along with MDS Monday and follow their challenges. This week’s challenge is to use a map on our project. Here is the sketch

digital scrapbook page using a map as a background and incorporating 14 picturesI love that the sketch has so many photos on it. This allowed me to put a whole year worth of photos from our granddaughter’s freshman year at college. I did a screen capture of a map of the area where her college is located near Boston and saved it as a jpeg. Then I added a square punch and resized it to 12″ x 12″ and photo filled the punch. I decreased the opacity to about 70% so that the colors of the map wouldn’t conflict with the photos. The smaller photos are 2″ x 2″ square punches also filled with photos. Instead of tags on the corners of the larger photos, I added antique brads (122164) to ‘hold the photos in place’. Minimal supplies are needed to create a page like this. The square punch and arrow come with the MDS software.

Our 50th anniversary is August 28 but we wanted all the family to gather for a group picture and this past weekend was the only time we could gather them all together. It was a wonderful day with everyone there except for a grandson and his wife who in the military and didn’t have time off.

digital scrapbook page of our Alaska trip using Summer Splash stamp brush setOn this MDS Monday, we are enjoying a pleasant evening in our fifth-wheel trailer in a campground in Williams Lake, BC, on our way home from a month in Craig, AK. What a great time we had and I wanted to scrap some of the pictures we took to preserve those memories. I did take along a selection of stamps and stamping supplies but would not have pulled them out to create this scrapbook page. MDS to the rescue!!! What a wonderful way to spend the evening playing with my digital pictures and stamping supplies!

Hey, it’s Terrific Tuesday! The weather here in Craig, AK, is not that terrific. We have had several days/weeks??? of overcast skies and rain. Makes us remember one reason why we moved to Mount Vernon, WA. They have been having hot, sunny weather.

The only changes I made to the designer pages were to change the colors to my wedding colors and to add journaling and a couple extra photos to pg 3.

Using MDS to create scrapbooks is so much faster and cleaner than traditional scrapbooking! I can change colors without wasting any paper, change the size of photos without destroying any photos, and….there is no clean-up afterwards! Triple score!!! Give it a try for yourself. MDS Monday Sketch 61- Using Rounded Photo Corners

Using rounded corners on photoDon’t those two smiling faces warm your heart? They are two of our great-granddaughters and I had to use their photos on this scrapbook page for the MDSM61 sketch challenge. We were to round the corners of the photos in this challenge. Did you know that you can round them with just a click of your mouse? Right click on the photo which brings up a menu with several options, one of which is rounded corners. When you click on that, another screen comes up allowing you to deselect any corners you don’t want rounded. How cool is that?! Then click OK and you are done!

I wanted the title to resemble the colors in the dandelions so I used the color picker to choose one of the colors in the dandelions for the text. Then I changed the drop shadow to Old Olive and increased the opacity to 100% to get the soft green shadow.

I didn’t wander too far from the sketch. Well….maybe!

Today Starts Here digital scrapbook pageOne of the new downloads this Terrific Tuesday is Today Starts Here Photobook Template (137120). This download includes 24 pages of photobook templates, 32 piece stamp brush set, 15 embellishments, and one diamond-shaped punch. I chose to just use one of the pages to create this scrapbook page. Using a designer template can be as easy as just dropping photos into the photoboxes or you can delete and move elements around to meet your needs.

I started this page with this template:

Today Begins Here Photobook TemplatesI discovered that the diamonds are actually punches so used the ‘fill with photo’ option under punches in the Design Center. I filled some of the punches with Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper (137077) and filled the rest with my photos. Once you have filled a punch with a photo, double click it and use the magnifying glasses to enlarge or shrink your photo for the best fit. I needed more room for my journaling so I moved two of the diamonds. I love the shape of this layout and will use this Today Starts Here Photobook Template often. Sorry I didn’t get a blog post done yesterday. I really have no excuse other than I am a professional procrastinator! I sure wish I could get paid for all my experience in that professions…LOL!

On Monday, I shared this blog post and told you all that I would share your scrapbook pages using the technique on my blog if you emailed me a photo of the page. The offer still stands. Dorothy Cordes shared this one with me. I love the view of her backyard covered with a glistening blanket of snow.

Split photo scrapbooking techniqueI had planned to also share a scrapbook page with a photo spread over an arrangement of squares. As often happens, the creative process takes over and the end result is nothing like my beginning idea. Here is what I ended up with. Tomorrow’s post will tell you how to do this.

MDS Monday – Festive Flurry Digital Kit

Festive Flurry Digital KitOnce in a while you take a special photo that demands special treatment. I created this scrapbook page for the MDS Monday Challenge 49. The sketch has five elongated photo boxes on the page and this photo of frost crystals on the edges of my rosebush leaves is the perfect photo to add across all the photo boxes. I wanted the frost to be the highlight of the page so kept the rest very simple by just adding three lacy white snowflakes from the Festive Flurry Kit.

It is a snap to add one photo across several photo boxes using MDS. Add a photo box, size it and adjust the shape as desired. Then copy and paste to get the desired number of boxes. Arrange them as desired, then select all of them by holding down the shift key while clicking on each box and group them. While the group is selected, drag your photo into the photo box group. Voila! The photo is divided into all the boxes. Experiment with the sizes of the boxes and the alignment of them.

I am going to play with this technique a bit more today and will post a couple of different versions tomorrow. Email me your creations using this technique and I will share them here.

I started this page by adding all the pictures I wanted to share. I played around with their placement and size for quite a while before adding the background. I tried plain Soft Sky card stock and one of the Winter Frost papers but didn’t like either. Then I popped in this pattern from the Be Yourself May Kit designer series paper. I couldn’t believe how it made the colors in the photos pop and tied them all together. The motion in the placement of the photos and the movement of color in the background resonate with the excitement and activity of a three-year-old’s birthday party. Since this is an 8 1/2″ x 11″ scrapbook page, there wasn’t room for any flourishes. The title takes their place. I used the color picker to choose the pink jacket color for the title.

Terrific Tuesday – 2013-2015 In Color ruffle Trim

One of the new downloads today is the 2013-2015 In Color Ruffle Trim. I enjoy using it with traditional stamping and am delighted that it is now available in digital form. Furthermore, I was surprised that the download includes a circle frame and a flower created with the ruffle trim, very cool. I had the perfect picture of my college freshman granddaughter to put in the frame and this scrapbook page was the outcome.

For some reason the MDS program only offered an oval shape when I changed the shape of the photo so I went with that. Had to change the shape of the circle frame but it works. Our granddaughter’s house at college had a function where they all dressed like flappers. I think she nailed the look. Of course, I had to add a vintage overlay! I used the Decorative Overlays – flourishes and changed the color to Early Espresso to keep with the vintage look. The background is Very Vanilla. I am so delighted with how this page turned out! MDSM Challenge 31 -Venetian Romance DSP

I love doing challenges, especially with MDS! Today’s challenge is this sketchMDSM Challenge 31
and here is my take on it.Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper

I wanted to try the sketch using a punch shape other than rectangles. First I tried using flowers but that wasn’t fitting together well so I changed to hearts. I used the Full Heart and the Small Heart punches. I filled them with various patterns of the Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper. After making a row of hearts, I grouped them and copy and pasted them once. The second time I pasted them, I inverted them so they would fit with the row of little hearts better. Let me tell you…having already added the dsp to the punches, each further action I made on the page took a loooonnnng time to complete. I don’t know which is better, to get all the punches positioned as desired first and then add the dsp to each punch or to add the dsp first like I did.

Seeing this photo of our granddaughter the day she moved into her house on the Smith College campus brings such a joy to my heart. Her confident pose shows how excited she is to be going to college. I pray her confidence and hopes of a bright future remain throughout her adult life.

Today I want to share a scrapbook page I created for My Digital Studio Monday, challenge 27. Here is the sketch:                      and here is my version:

The sketch is a square page but I created an 8 1/2″ x 11″ page so I could print it out and put it into a scrapbook. I rotated the sketch by 90 degrees so the pictures would fit. Our youngest granddaughter wanted to show me their new cotton candy maker and her brother joined in the fun. It makes great cotton candy! Yum!
