Joyous Celebrations/Sanded Core’dinations technique

Christmas Joy Sanded Co'ordinations Supplies: Stamp Set – Joyous Celebrations (w-128066, c-128069); Card Stock – Whisper White (100730) and Cherry Cobbler Core'dinations (127846); Inks – Gumball Green and Cherry Cobbler; Other – Rhinestone Basic Jewels (119246), Extra-Large Oval Punch (119859), Holiday Frame Textured Impressios Embossing Folder (127820)

When I received the Holiday Mini catalog, I immediately was drawn to this embossing folder. I love dry embossing and using embossing folders and the Big Shot die-cutting machine make quick work of dry embossing. For a couple of years now, I have read discussions and seen samples of sanded core'dinations card stock. I was delighted to see that Stampin' Up! now carries some in their exclusive colors. You first emboss the card stock and then sand the raised portions. Core'dinations card stock had a core that is different from the outside layers and sanding it brings out a slightly different color. Stampin' Up! card stock is the same color all the way through the paper so sanding it will only rough up the paper, not show a different color core.

Since I didn't keep the Extra-large oval punch out of storage, I had to improvise so I stamped the JOY with Gumball Green ink onto the Whisper White card stock and cut it into an oval by hand. I did order another punch so I could make more cards with this stamp set and embossing folder. I added the little rhinestone to the center of the O for a little bling.

Now is the time to be starting your Christmas cards. Visit my online store to order supplies to make this card or a Christmas card of your own design. As a heads-up, I will be starting a Twelve Weeks of Christmas promotion for my The Soggy Stamper Newsletter subscribers. Each week, I'll send out a project for you to make starting with 5 weeks of Christmas cards. The promotion begins in October so subscribe now by filling out the box in the upper right-hand corner of this blog. You will love the exclusive projects I have chosen for you.

Recoloring Designer Series Paper with MDS2

8-31-12 card-001
Supplies: MDS2+ (130646), MDS2 (130644), MDS2 upgrade (130650), or 30-day FREE trial of MDS2 (130910); Perfectly Penned stamp brush set (130167); Essentials Designer Series Paper – 11 (131222); Satin Ribbon digital download (121063)

Welcome to My Digital Craft Corner this Friday. One of the options with the new MDS2 is that you can recolor designer series paper to fit the color scheme of your project. I purchased the new Essentials Designer Series Paper download that was offered on Tuesday specifically to use with recoloring paper because I rarely use black.

I discovered several things while experimenting with the recoloring process.

  • Designer series paper will not recolor when added directly as a background, you have to add it as a page layer. There is a little check box when you click on the background button in the Resource pallete.
  • If you use the 'add as a page layer' option, you can't enlarge the box without getting a warning about possible pixilation but by choosing to add a photo box from the design center, you can drag your designer series paper into the photo box and resize at will.
  • Then you can choose the 'recolor' button in the lower right hand corner of the design center. Now the resulting color will not be exactly what you hoped for since you have color already in the paper. The recolor doesn't completely bleach out the existing color and it will recolor in shades of monotone.

Here are the results I got when I recolored the Essentials designer series paper – 11.

  8-31-12 card-002

8-31-12 card-003

(The zigzags in the last photo are actually the same color as in the dsp in the card but due to the smaller size of the photo, the color shows as mostly black.) I have come to the conclusion that adding the dsp to a photobox gives you the most flexibility and when the pattern is mostly dark like this one, change it to the negative and you will get a better light color. Also, you have to experiment with changing the color and not expect an exact match.

I hope this post is helpful and I encourage you to play around with this feature. Thanks for visiting.

Until next time…blessings,
Sue

Tomorrow is the last day to…

CM1132B
…take advantage of…no…it isn't either the last day! This offer has been extended until September 14 to give you more time to create Christmas photo books, calendars, cards, and tags. Just think of the pleasure your family will receive each time they look at that photo book of your darling kids or the memories renewed by looking at photos of that trip you took together. I know that grandparents will love, love, love a calendar with photos of their grandkids on each month. This would be the perfect gift for them since they usually have everything they need. Once you finish creating your project, send them off by email to Stampin' Up!'s professional printer for high quality paper and exact formulations of ink colors. Click here to view the 31 downloads that have been discounted.

It is the last day to sign up for your own paper crafting business and receive this darling kit to create a unique Halloween decor.

B1LP_Spooktacular_ProjectKit_Aug0112_NA
After Halloween, change out the papers and embellishments to make a Thanksgiving decor item and then change it out again for Christmas. I have such fun running my Stampin' Up! business and would love to have you join me in the fun. Contact me so we can discuss how owning your own business can meet your needs. The special Halloween craft kit is only available through tomorrow but the business opportunity is available all the time.

Stampin’ Up! Convention Swap Card – Four Seasons

Sudsol convention 2012 card front swap

Supplies: Stamp Sets – Four Seasons (w-126830, c-126832) and Wacky Wishes (w-126410, c-126412) both are hostess sets; Inks – Gumball Green stamp pad,Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso, and Basic Gray markers; card stock – Midnight Muse, Whisper White; other – Frost White Shimmer Paint (116854), Northern Flurry embossing folder (120902)

I apologize for the size of this card. I had to pull it up from a website because the original is at home and I am in Colorado. I made 44 of these for the SUSDOL card-front swap. The base is Midnight Muse. I then added a layer of Whisper White card stock that has been run through the Big Shot with the Northern Flurry embossing folder. I stamped Merry Christmas from the Hostess stamp set Wacky Wishes with Gumball Green ink. I sponged Frost White Shimmer Paint on the winter stamp from Four Seasons and stamped it on Midnight Muse card stock. Then I cut it out using one of the Apothecary Accents Framelits. I used Early Espresso, Basic Gray, and Cherry Cobbler markers to color the bird and circle of that same stamp and stamped it on Whisper White card stock. Then I punched it out with the 1" circle stamp and layered it over the punched piece with a Stampin' Dimensional. The new Illuminate Glimmer Watermark Stampin' Pad found in the Holiday Mini will ceate the same effect without having to sponge Shimmer Paint on the stamp. Of the three cards I created to swap at convention, this is my favorite. If you need any of the supplies I used to make this card, just click here to enter my online store. If you would like to receive Hostess benefits to get the two hostess sets, contact me to schedule a workshop. The workshop can be in your home if you live on Prince of Wales Island or can be a catalog party…or….you can place a $150 (before shipping and taxes) order through my online store.

Terrific Tuesday Revisited

In yesterday's post, I showed you this stamp brush set from the Lovely Little Labels Kit but said that my muse had left the house.

Lovely Little Labels index
My muse returned on the flight between Seattle and Denver. What a great way to spend 2 1/2 hours captivity…playing with MDS2! It must have been the 30,000 ft altitude because the muse came up with this quirky anniversary card for my husband.

Terrific Tuesday 8-28-12-001Supplies: MDS2+ (130646), MDS2 (130644), MDS2 upgrade (130650), or 30-day FREE trial of MDS2 (130910), Lovely Little Labels Kit (131231), Love Letter Designer Series Paper patterns 3, 4, and 8 (124102), Calendar Basics Digital Kit (118120), Tasteful Trim Shape 2 punch (123997), Tasteful Trim Shape 3 (123998)

In case you can't make sense of the saying, it says "since (cents) you hold the key to my heart, I love you."  Ron got a chuckle out of the card. I was sitting on the plane in the row behind him and I passed my computer up for him to see it.

Have you given MDS2 and digital card-making and scrapbooking a try yet? It has several advantages over traditional stamping:

  • Once you have purchased the software, the downloads are relatively inexpensive and do not ever retire.
  • There is no getting supplies out and cleaning up the mess afterwards.
  • Space for crafting and storing stamps, papers, embellishments, and punches is no larger than your computer's footprint so you can create in a small area.
  • If your computer is portable, you can create on vacation, in a plane, out camping without hauling along supplies.
  • With MDS2, stamp sets are resizable both smaller and bigger to fit your creative purposes.
  • Printing at home can be done but sending your creations out by email to Stampin' Up!'s professional printer is easy and you get professional binding for calendars and photobooks. AND until Sept. 14, printing of photobooks, scrapbook pages, cards, and tags is 31% off. There are 31 digital downloads that also are 31% off. Click here to see the list and place your order.

To give MDS2 a Free 30-day trial click here and begin the adventure. I am available by email 24/7 to help you along the way. I look forward to sharing this great adventure in creativity with you.

Terriffic Tuesday – Lovely Little Labels

Lovely Little Labels index

Lovely Little Labels Kit (131231)

We have another terrific Tuesday download. You can see them here and order any you want. I haven't order any today, I'm still thinking on it. However, I did order the Lovely Little Labels Kit last week and haven't shown you a creation using it yet. My business coach is always telling us that we shouldn't buy new product until we have shown the product we already have so I am right on target this time. However…my creative muse has fled the house so I don't have a project to share today.

My husband's sister is critically ill and has been given up to two weeks to live so we are on our way to Denver to see her. I will do my best to keep up my blog posts while we are traveling.

It is also our 48th anniversary and we have done something very unique. We toasted each other for 48 years together with champagne at 30,000 ft! In the course of discussion with the flight attendent in the first class section of the plane, it came up that we were celebrating our anniversary and he gave us complimentary glasses of champagne.

Thanks for coming to visit today. Check back throughout the week to see how well I do with posting daily.

Until next time…blessings,

My Digital Studio Monday – Nautical Expedition Anniversary card

Card 8-27-12-001 copySupplies: MDS2+ (130646), MDS2 (130644), MDS2 upgrade (130650), or 30-day FREE trial of MDS2 (130910), Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper (124111). Lots of Tags Shape 3 digital punch (124441), Fancy Fan stamp brush set (127348)

Welcome to My Digital Craft Corner this Monday morning. Tomorrow Ron and I will celebrate 48 years of our married journey together I created this card with MDS2 and will print it out to create a hybrid card for him. The journey has had its good times and times of trouble but through it all has been our love and respect for each other. That, along with a strong trust in God, is what makes the journey a joy.

I chose the tall ship image to give the sense of our journey. It is on the Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper -1. I filled the Lots of Labels – 3 punch with the dsp. Then I shrank the design on the paper and repositioned it so the ship fit. The base of the card is Crumb Cake card stock. I added a square punch stretched to make a rectangle and color-filled it with one of the colors in the dsp using the color picker. To add dimension to the rectangle, I added the Fancy Fan stamp, colored it the same color as the background, and added a black drop-shadow of 100% blur and 25% opacity.

Thanks for coming by today to visit. Tomorrow is Terrific Tuesday so be sure to check back to see what downloads catch my fancy.

Until next time…blessings,

Getting Hostess Benefits

Screen Shot 2012-08-26 at 6.29.13 PMThis weekend, a wonderful customer placed a nice order online. However, she didn't get the hostess benefits she was due because she placed the order through www.stampinup.com. To get hostess benefits, you must first go to my website http://creationsbysue.stampinup.net. You will see the front page of my website as the picture shows. • The order comes directly to you so you don't have to wait for a hostess to deliver it.
  • You can be your own hostess. Go to my online store as described above and with a qualifying order of $150 or more before shipping and taxes, you get hostess benefits.

I always appreciate your business. If you have questions or prefer to have me order for you, just send me an email.

Yep…today has gone to the dogs! It is National Dog Day here in the United States. I, of course, have two furry kids who don't exactly know they are dogs. Little One and Scout have taken the place in our home of our children who have grown up and moved out. I love this picture of our two pups begging for their share of Ron's dinner. Sorry, Ron, that a little more leg shows than you would want. We share our home with two mini dachshunds. Do you have dogs? If so, share in a comment who they are and what breed.

Thanks for coming to visit today. I am doing my best to post every day so come back and check what I have for you each day. As always, to order any supplies you need to create this project yourself, just click on the names in the supply list or visit my online store.

Scentsational Season Card #3

Three Gingerbread MenI have decided that I really love this Scentsational Season stamp set and its coordinating Holiday Collection Framelits set. This is the third card I have made using this set. This time I am featuring the gingerbread men. I added Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details to their buttons for a little glitz. I used my black pen to color their eyes. I added a couple strips of Snow Festival Designer Series Paper. I love the colors in this house pattern. The greeting comes from Tags til Christmas. Of course, I didn't keep the scallop square punch out of storage. Go figure! I can't decide which image from the set I like best. I guess I like them all. Which one is your favorite? Leave your vote in a comment. If you need any stamping supplies, ordering is as easy as entering my online store, clicking on the items you need, and checking out. The order is shipped directly to you. Or you can email it to me if you prefer.

Supplies: Scentsational Season Stamp Set (w-121026, c-121190), Tags til Christmas (w-120847, c-121169), Holiday Collection Framelits (127814), or Scentsational Season Bundle (w-129945, c-129946), Snow Festival Designer Series Paper (126908)
