Happy Dr. Suess Day!

Dr. Suess clip-art of Thing 1 and Thing 2

Today is Dr. Suess Day! When I was learning to read, our easy reading books were Dick and Jane books. Yes, I am that old! When our children were learning to read, Dr. Suess books were very popular and I remember spending wonderful times reading “Go, Dog, Go”, “Hop On Pop” and “Horton Hears a Who” with them. I did a little Googling about Dr. Suess books and found out that his first book, “An to Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street” was written in 1937.

I think they are so popular because of the rhymes and nonsense words found in the books. You know you are a skilled reader when you can read some of his books like “Oh Can You Say” which are filled with tongue-twisters without missing a beat.

I think my favorite book, though, is “Go, Dog, Go!” because of my children’s excitement when they could read it even before starting school.
