MDS Monday – Project Life by Stampin’ Up! Style

Whoosh…what a chore it was to finish this Project Life style scrapbook page! I kept getting java error messages but with perseverance I was able to work in spite of the error messages. I finally checked for page errors and found that I had a corrupt file for one of the embellishments. I had deleted the embellishment but the layer it was in didn’t delete. I finally started all over again with a new project and stayed away from that embellishment. I had no trouble the second time.

Terrific Tuesday – Lots of MDS Downloads!

Digital fall card using the For All Things stamp brush setTerrific Tuesday brings you a wonderful selection of new digital downloads. Last Thursday the digital downloads that are pictured in the Holiday seasonal catalog were released. I missed sharing them with you then because Ron and I were busy celebrating our 50th anniversary. Today we got three more downloads. Click on the links to see the details of the downloads and to order them.

Isn’t that Dracula candy bar wrap in a coffin darling! But I digress. I created the card above to showcase the Color Me Fall digital designer series paper and the For All Things stamp brush set. I love how they coordinate and how the leaf looks like it is mesh. I copied and pasted it in place to make the image a little stronger so it would stand out from the busy background. This card came together very quickly. I highly recommend you order both the designer series paper and the stamp set!

Holiday Seasonal Catalog is here!

MDS Monday – Using Overlays

Digital birthday card using a Natural Composition OverlayHere is my version of the MDS Monday 79 challenge to use an overlay on our projects. When I saw this beautiful floral lace overlay in my files, I decided to create a feminine birthday card. Our sketch looks like this

sketch for MDS Monday 79 challengeI didn’t want to cover up the beautiful lace so I kept the elements rather small. I substituted the greeting on a tag for the photo on the right and flowers for the other photos. While the leaves aren’t in the sketch, I just had to add them. The tag is colored Whisper White but it was so strong a color in contrast to the flowers that I decreased the opacity to 60% and got just the right color.

Have you tried My Digital Studio yet? It is a fun way to create cards, scrapbook pages, and 3-D items using MDS. Here are some of the benefits of this program:

  • You have a complete paper-crafting room in the amount of space of your computer and maybe a printer. All you need to add is cardstock, scissors, and adhesive if you want to make hybrid and 3-D projects.
  • Getting set up to create is just a matter of opening the program on your computer. There is no gathering supplies.
  • When you try something and it doesn’t look right, all you have to do it delete it and begin again or change out a greeting or designer series paper. There is no wasted paper.
  • MDS downloads do not retire so the ones you buy are available as long as you have the program. This means that if you are also a traditional stamper, you can print out the digital version of some of the designer series papers when you run out and you can print out just the patterns you like. Again, no waste of having papers you don’t like lying around.
  • If you are into digital photography like so many of us, your photos are stored on your computer. By designing digital scrapbook pages with MDS, you save the steps of printing out your photo and then cropping it before you can scrap it. MDS even allows you to enlarge and shrink your photos to fit you need.
  • Stampin’ Up! has an excellent printer who calibrates their inks so that your scrapbook pages and cards come back from the printer with colors that match the ribbon and embellishments you have on hand. This makes hybrid pages so easy!
  • Finally, when you are finished working on your project or have to quit, there is no clean up. All you have to do is save your project and close out the program.

Have I convinced you to give MDS a try? It is not difficult to learn and I am happy to help you get started. You have three ways to order it, with a digital download, a software disc, or even try it for 30 days for FREE. Click on one of the links below to order through my online store.

Big Shot Special Winding Down

August Big Shot specialHey, it’s Thursday and you have just a little over a week to take advantage of this special. Purchasing my Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine was one of the very best purchases I have made for my stamping addiction. Yep…it is an addiction. I can’t imagine what life before stamping was like! :o) But I digress.

Maybe you are like me and can’t see how you would use a Big Shot enough to invest in one. Well, let me tell you…there is hardly a card I create that doesn’t involve using the Big Shot in one way or another. And…if you are a traditional scrapbooker, it is a necessity for cutting out letters and embellishments for scrapbook pages. With the advent of framelits and designing framelits to cut out images of a specific stamp set, hand-cutting out flowers and such is a thing of the past. Such a time saver!

The good news is that when you purchase a Big Shot from me at the regular price, Stampin’ Up! is giving you the option of purchasing an exclusive framelit/stamp set bundle for 15 % off. You say you already have a Big Shot? Well, you can still purchase these exclusive bundles at a 15% savings. But only through Aug 31. So visit my online store to learn more about the special and place your order. If you prefer, you can email me your order or call me with it.

When you click on the link, you will see two other specials going on right now. Check them out as well. The Short and Sweet special is only for one week so be sure to check it out.

Weekly Deals for Week Beginning 8-19

handmade card using the square framelits, elegant butterfly punch and honeycomb embossing folderI created this card to feature some of the items that are in this week’s Weekly Deals. One of the items is the Squares Collection Framelits (130921). To get a scalloped edge card like this, cut a piece of 11″ x 4 1/4″ cardstock. Fold it in half. Then place the scalloped square framelit so that the fold is inside one of the edges of the framelit. Then run it through the Big Shot. This makes a 4″ x 4 1/2″ card.

I learned the background from my friend Margaret Raburn. I sponged Crisp Cantaloupe, Lost Lagoon, Tangelo Twist, and Mossy Meadow ink onto the embossing folder. Then I misted it with water, placed my cardstock on it and ran the embossing folder through the Big Shot. The greeting is from the An Open Heart Stamp set. Tiny rhinestones add glitz to the butterflies. Click on the images below for more details and to order the An Open Heart stamp set.

On to the Weekly Deals…

MDS Monday – Map It Out

I love to play along with MDS Monday and follow their challenges. This week’s challenge is to use a map on our project. Here is the sketch

map sketch for MDSM78 challengeand here is my version

digital scrapbook page using a map as a background and incorporating 14 picturesI love that the sketch has so many photos on it. This allowed me to put a whole year worth of photos from our granddaughter’s freshman year at college. I did a screen capture of a map of the area where her college is located near Boston and saved it as a jpeg. Then I added a square punch and resized it to 12″ x 12″ and photo filled the punch. I decreased the opacity to about 70% so that the colors of the map wouldn’t conflict with the photos. The smaller photos are 2″ x 2″ square punches also filled with photos. Instead of tags on the corners of the larger photos, I added antique brads (122164) to ‘hold the photos in place’. Minimal supplies are needed to create a page like this. The square punch and arrow come with the MDS software.

Now it’s your turn. Visit the MDS Monday website for the details of the challenge and get to creating. Then upload your project to their site. If you do, please leave me a message so I will be sure to check it out.

Work of Art – Christmas card

handmade Christmas card created with Work of Art stamp setI think this Christmas card will be the last card I share using the Work of Art stamp set (wood – 134111, clear – 134114). To see the previous ones I have shared click here, herehere and here. I also used stamps from the new photopolymer sets White Christmas (135767) and Wondrous Wreath (135047) which you will be able to order from the Holiday catalog beginning Aug 28.

Although the photo does not show it well, the layer behind to scene is Gold Foil Sheets (132622). I also punched the star from the gold foil sheet using the star punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (133787).

Now that you have seen the variety of cards that can be created using the Work of Art stamp set, are you ready to order one for yourself? Just click on the links below to order the supplies I used for this card.

Work of Art Card #4

Ready for another example of a card created with Work of Art (wood – 134111, clear – 134114)? Here you go!

Handmade card using the chevron pattern of the Work of Art stamp setThis time I repeatedly stamped the chevron image on Soft Sky cardstock with Baked Brown Sugar ink. I punched the hearts out of Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock with the new Sweetheart Punch (133786) and the little heart from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (133787). The greeting is from the Honeycomb Hello stamp set (wood – 134075, clear – 134078). The Honeycomb Hello set has perfectly-sized greetings to fit on punched shapes and is therefore so useful. You can find other samples on these earlier posts here, here, and here. Stay tuned for my last sample.

Terrific Tuesday – New MDS Downloads

digital birthday card using Lullaby digital designer series paper and Age Awareness stamp brush set

Welcome to this week’s Terrific Tuesday! Somehow, I totally missed the new downloads last week! I apologize. Usually demonstrators get notification of new downloads but I now see that at the top of the new download page it says to check the first week of every month for new downloads. So…if I forget to do a blog post about them during the first week of a month, you can check them out for yourself in my online store by clicking on Shop Now, then Digital Downloads on the left side of the page and then click on ‘newest downloads’.

My favorite designer series paper in the annual catalog is Lullaby (133695) and now it is in  digital form , Lullaby Designer Series Paper digital download (138112)! This and Age Awareness stamp brush set (138111) are two of this month’s new downloads. So I created this card from elements in these downloads.

Check out the new downloads below and click on their links for more information and to order them.

National Lazy Day

image of a hammockAccording to a bunch of online calendars, today is National Lazy Day. While I don’t want to infer that you are lazy, I want you to consider a wonderful tool for scrapbooking and cardmaking, the Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine by Sizzix that will speed up your creativity immensely.

Tired of having to hand cut out stamped images and shapes for your cards and scrapbook pages? Maybe your hands are arthritic and using a pair of scissors is too painful. Or maybe your hands shake too much. The Big Shot is your answer. Many of the Stampin’ Up! stamp sets now have matching sets of framelits eliminating all that fussy hand cutting.

Do you like dry embossed backgrounds and finishing touches on your pages or cards? Do you hate the time it takes to get out a light box and all the tedious work of embossing through a stencil? Again…the Big Shot to the rescue! By using Stampin’ Up!’s Textured Impressions Embossing Folders and a Big Shot machine, your dry embossed background is finished in a couple seconds.

When Stampin’ Up! first started selling the Big Shot, I debated ordering one for some time. I rarely do traditional scrapbooking and all I thought the Big Shot was for was to cut out letters and shapes for scrapbook pages. Boy was I wrong! There is hardly a card I create where I haven’t used the Big Shot for some step in the process.

The great news for you is that during the month of August, Stampin’ Up! is having a special. Purchase the Big Shot and get an exclusive bundle of stamp set and matching framelit set for FREE! Check out the bundles below and click on the image for more information and to place your order.

August Big Shot specialYou will be so happy you decide to buy a Big Shot! For those of you who already own a Big Shot, these same exclusive bundles are available. Order now! You’ll be happy you did.

MDS Monday – Birthday Time

Digital Birthday Card using Perfectly Penned Stamp Brush SetGuess what day it is! No it is not ‘hump’ day but my birthday! So for this MDS Monday I created this digital birthday card. Did you know that you can recolor embellishments to almost any color you desire? This ribbon was originally Very Vanilla and I recolored it with Coastal Cabana. I love the soft color that was the result.

You can pay by credit card if you give me your information or by PayPal. My PayPal account is sue@soggystamper.com. I’d love to give you FREE SHIPPING today so contact me!
