Terrific Tuesday – Using designer templates

Today Starts Here digital scrapbook pageOne of the new downloads this Terrific Tuesday is Today Starts Here Photobook Template (137120). This download includes 24 pages of photobook templates, 32 piece stamp brush set, 15 embellishments, and one diamond-shaped punch. I chose to just use one of the pages to create this scrapbook page. Using a designer template can be as easy as just dropping photos into the photoboxes or you can delete and move elements around to meet your needs.

I started this page with this template:

Today Begins Here Photobook TemplatesI discovered that the diamonds are actually punches so used the ‘fill with photo’ option under punches in the Design Center. I filled some of the punches with Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper (137077) and filled the rest with my photos. Once you have filled a punch with a photo, double click it and use the magnifying glasses to enlarge or shrink your photo for the best fit. I needed more room for my journaling so I moved two of the diamonds. I love the shape of this layout and will use this Today Starts Here Photobook Template often. I have included a screenshot of today’s new downloads below. Check them out by clicking on the links or by visiting my online store and ordering your favorites. I do appreciate your business.

MDS Monday – Using the Align feature of MDS

Digital card using Watercolor Wonder and Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper

The challenge for this MDS Monday challenge was to create a card using the Align feature of MDS. This feature is an easy shortcut when you want different elements on your project to be lined up. You can access it two ways – either in the ‘arrange’ pull-down menu at the top of your computer screen or by right clicking on the objects you want to line up. See the screenshot below to see all the options available with this wonderful tool. screenshot of the align feature of MDS On this card, I used the ‘align’ feature to center the piece of Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper both vertically and horizontally on the card. I also used it to center the greeting label horizontally. I selected all three flags and used the ‘align’ to space them evenly horizontally and to line the tops of them up. If you haven’t been using this feature, I urge you to do so. If you have questions or need help, don’t hesitate to call me or email me. I am happy to help. :o) Supplies used in this card:MDS software digital download (130646), MDS software disc (130647), or 30-day Free Trial of MDS (130910) Background    Card Stock/Kiwi Kiss Stamps Natural Composition Overlays (130855) – 11, Color = 0,0,0 Cheep Talk (118834) – hello there, Color = 0,0,0 and talking bird recolored with coloring tool Punches 1.25 Square Punch,  Filled with:Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper (137077) – 5 Valentine Love – flag (from Valentine Love Ensemble (133327),  Filled with: Gingham Garden Designer Series Papers (134853) – 3, 6, 11 Order the supplies you need to create this project by clicking on the links above or visiting my online store.

This Terrific Tuesday we have a very Terrific digital download! If you are like me and love Glimmer paper, you will go crazy for the new Glimmer Kit (137342)! See how easy and elegant the card above is? All I did was add a Natural Composition Overlay to the background and color it Very Vanilla with a Smokey Slate drop shadow. I reduced the opacity of the stamp to about 50%. Then I added the two elements from the Glimmer Kit. Done!!!

You can also recolor the elements in the Glimmer Kit and in the Glimmer paper. I have created another card for you from this kit.

This time I recolored the gold wreath and Hello with Gumball Green color. I added two of the scallop borders, changed them to vertical and did a mirror image on one of them to create the scalloped embellishment. Here are all the elements you get with this digital kit

St. Patrick’s Day Pop ‘n Cuts card

We made a St. Patrick’s Day Pop ‘n Cuts card yesterday at the Craig/Klawock Stampers monthly club meeting. Most of the time I see something that gives me an idea which I file in the back of my mind but this time, I was at a loss for a St. Patty’s Day idea so I actually did a Pinterest search for a St. Patrick’s Day card. I found this card by Susy Miller.

St. Patrick's Day card by Suzy MillerHer punch art Irishman puts a smile on my face each time I look at him so I used her idea to create this Pop ‘n Cut card.

Happy Valentine’s Day! – Mailbox Love Notes

Supplies: MDS software digital download (130646), MDS software disc (130647), or 30-day Free Trial of MDS (130910), My Digital Class Mailbox Love Notes (136780)

My business coach challenged us to write a post about our favorite Valentine saying or verse. This is my all time favorite. There is a story behind it.

Years ago, we lived in a small town in Western Montana. I picked out a Valentine with this saying on it to give my husband on my way home from work in a neighboring town. On Valentine’s Day he handed me the card he picked out for me. When I opened it, I started laughing. It was the exact same card I had picked but he had bought his in the town we lived in. Obviously we have a similar sense of humor. I guess that is why we will be happily celebrating our 50th anniversary this year.

I am sure I have that card in my ‘Memories’ file at home but did not think in advance of finding it, scanning it and sharing the card with you before we left home to come back to Craig, Alaska, for a visit.

So….I used my trusty MDS program on my computer to create a digital card that is similar to the original card. I searched the available downloads in my online store and in my download library and did not find a stamp brush set or embellishment that was a pair of lips.

I used the ‘Add Line‘ tool under the ‘freeform’ button to add two circles and the creases on the sides of the mouth. I pulled and pushed the handles on the circles to make the lips shape and the puckered opening. Then I colored the lips Real Red with the freeform brush. I created the message with a series of text boxes. The background is design 3 of the Mailbox Love Notes Designer Series Paper found in the My Digital Class Mailbox Love Notes (136780). I have included below, images of what is included in this digital download. Click here to place your order for the class. Even if you are a seasoned designer, the content files in the class are worth the price of admission.

Washi Wednesdays – Gingham Garden Washi Tape

Label Love with Gingham Garden Washi TapeI’m starting a new recurring posting on Wednesdays called Washi Wednesday. Washi tape is a semi-transparent tape that is repositionable. You can easily tear off the length you want by hand. It has been popular in the paper-crafting market for several years and this year, Stampin’ Up! developed their own designs of washi tape prints to coordinate with our wonderful designer series papers. If you are like me, you like the washi tape but wonder what to do with it except to use it as just tape. On Washi Wednesdays I will share various ways to use this great product.

Today I have a card where I used the Gingham Garden Washi Tape (129314). I put down the yellow gingham tape, then the red tape, and finally the flowery tape. This gives the appearance of a woven pattern. Using the Washi tape is an easy way to make stripes on your card. If you have different ways to use your washi tape, send me an e-mail and I’ll share your idea here.

Terrific Tuesday – New MDS Downloads

It’s Terrific Tuesday and that means new MDS downloads and new Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals! First let me tell you about this wall art I created. I’m so excited that one of the new downloads is the digital form of the Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper (137077). I love, love, love this paper and can now use it to my heart’s delight without worrying about running out. All I need to do is print out more when I need it. This particular pattern is so beautiful that it stands by itself so all that is needed is a saying. It is so cheerful that it is a perfect background for this saying. This saying pretty much describes how I approach my days. How can a person not find something to be happy about when we walk with a living, loving God? I am going to print off this 8 1/2″ X 11″ poster and hang it on my stamping room wall.

Here is a screenshot of all the new downloads for today. Click here or on the photo to see more details and order your favorites.New MDS downloads 2-11-14

MDS Monday – Filling a punch with own dsp

Putting your own designer series paper in a punchDid you know you can create your own designer series paper and fill a punch with it? For the MDS Monday Challenge 52, we were to use music somewhere on our card. Since Valentine’s Day is this week, I wanted to create a valentine to meet this challenge. Every time I have been separated from my husband and he comes back, my heart sings for joy at his return, even after 50 years of life together. I wanted to express this to him through this valentine.

In keeping with the challenge, I wanted to fill the heart punch with music. I could not find any designer series paper in MDS that was music so I created a sheet myself by repeatedly copying and pasting the Music Notes stamp brush set (125765) down the second page of my card with a Regal Rose background. I then saved just the second page as a jpeg to my desktop. I went back to the front page of the card where I had added the Full Hearts Punch and filled it with the ‘photo’ I had created when I saved page two as a jpeg. Now I had the music notes in the heart. To get the music to rotate with the heart shape I had to be sure to click the box that allows this to happen. (The box is found when you double click on the punch.)

As you go through the supply list below, you will see I added Regal Rose grosgrain ribbon recolored with Regal Rose. Today I  was mystified why I would do that. So I went back to the project, added another Regal Rose ribbon and found it is darker than what I wanted. For some strange reason, when I recolored it with Regal Rose, the result was a lighter shade of Regal Rose. It created just the color to match the Pinking Hearts border punches (122134) which had been colored using the picker to get one of the colors of the Mailbox Love Notes designer series paper. It pays to experiment!

I am going to print out this card front and make a hybrid card to give my honey. I know he will love it. Send me a picture of a project where you add your own designer series paper to a punch and I will share it on my blog.

It’s Raining Hearts – Tags 4 You

Hearts a Flutter and Gorgeous Grunge Flip cardHearts a Flutter and Gorgeous Grunge Flip Card

It’s raining hearts! I made this card last fall as part of a series of cards using the Tags 4 You stamp set. The stamp set, which was in the Holiday catalog, was thankfully carried over through the spring. Other stamp sets used in this card are Hearts a Flutter and Gorgeous Grunge. I used the wonderful Thinlets Label Card die, the Label Bracket Punch and the Hearts Collection Framelits to do my cutting. The I [heart] you is part of the Thinlits Label Card set. Small Rhinestone Basic Jewels add a touch of bling to finish off the card.

Thinking about Valentine’s Day, do you realize that it is only eleven days away? Oh my gosh! If you are as great a procrastinator as I am, we really have to get busy creating and getting Valentines mailed to our loved ones and friends. Hmmm…..!

Baby Pop-up Box Card

Baby Pop-up Box CardI love making these pop-up box cards! They are easy to make but can take a lot of time depending on the amount of embellishments you add to the card. However much time you spend, the card is sure to surprise and please the recipient.

I used a mixture of current and retired supplies on this baby card. The stamp sets are the retired Bundle of Joy set, the Easy Events set and the balloons came from a long-retired frame set. I used Pink Pirouette cardstock (111351) and a Blushing Bride pattern from the 2013 – 2015 In Color Designer Series Paper Stack (130136) for the base of the card.

For a free tutorial on how to make this type card, sign-up for my mailing list. Those of you who are on my mailing list now, I am moving it to a new provider and you have to re-subscribe.  I am excited and thankful that many of you have already re-subscribed. I urge those of you who haven’t already resubscribed to do it soon so you can continue to get my newsletter and other emails from me. You can either use the subscribe box on this page or respond to the email I sent you. After March first I will no longer be using the old provider for The Soggy Stamper Newsletter only. MDS Monday – Adventure Awaits

Good morning! It is Monday and I have a masculine digital Birthday card for you. This was for a sketch challenge on SUDSOL, a demo only group. Here is the sketch:

SUDSOL sketch Challenge 224and here is my MDS version:

Adventure Awaits digital birthday cardThe tricky part of this card is to get the text to curve like the banner I used. To do this you create your text in a text box. Next, you go to the freeform section of the Design Center and add a line. Play with the line until it curves like the banner and then reduce the opacity to 0. While the line (which is now invisible) is selected, hold down the shift key and right-click on the text. This opens a pull-down menu with the option to attach to shape. Click on that and….voila! Your text is now curved! You can change the color of the text, the font, and the size of the text by double clicking on it. You can also play with the amount of curve in the text by pulling on the corner boxes when the text is highlighted.

The banner is from the My Digital Class Beautiful Today Kit. This kit has beautiful watercolor images which means that they are less opaque than usual. So that the background would not show through the banner, I copied it and pasted it in place for a total of three layers. This gave it the opacity I needed. Have you tried this online MDS class that Stampin’ Up! has created? Just the elements included in the kit are worth the price of the class. See them here and then click on the image to order the class.

My Digital Class Beautiful Today Kit

Have fun playing with attaching text to shapes and have fun playing with the sketch. I’d love to see what you do with it. Create a card and then email it to me. I’ll share it on my blog.
