Happy Spooky Halloween!

Spooky Halloween-001

Happy Halloween to you! Don’t let the goblins get you today! The day I created this digital Halloween card, it was really foggy and I thought of how spooky an old deserted house would look on a foggy night.

So how did I get the foggy look? First I added the house from Spooky Bingo Bits to a Smoky Slate background and enlarged it some. Then I added a circle punch and filled it with More Mustard. I added a drop shadow of Crushed Curry with 100% opacity and full blur and off set it quite a bit. I added the Spooky Bats which are in the Wicked Fun Kit and the greeting stamps.

To get the foggy look, I added a square punch enlarged to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and aligned it over the card. I filled it with Smoky Slate color and decreased the opacity to about 75%. I used the layers tool to move this layer back behind the greeting and the foremost bat. I love that layer tool!

So what do you think? Did I achieve the foggy look? Let me know in a comment below. If you want to create this card for yourself and need some of the supplies, click on the links below or visit my online store.

Here is a tip for you when viewing what digital kit downloads contain. Here is a screen shot of the Fall Memories November Kit (135910). November digital kit screen shot

See the little magnifying glass in the lower right corner of the index? When you click on that, a larger size of the index is opened. On the side of that larger image is a white arrow. When you click on the arrow, it shows another page. Keep clicking on the arrows to scroll through all the pages. For this particular kit, the stamp brushes are displayed on their own page, the embellishments on another, and each of the designs of the designer series papers are displayed individually. How great is that!!! I would have passed on getting this kit until I saw the wonderful stamps and larger sizes of the dsp that come with the kit.

Oh, and don’t forget to check out the weekly deals. They are here.

I did create a digital card for Terrific Tuesday but with all the other pictures I have in this post, I will just give you a snippet of the card. To see the whole card and the supplies and technique I used for it, you will have to come back on Oct 31. Cackle, cackle, hehehe!

Love Photopolymer Stamps?

Photopolymer stamps? What are they, you ask? Photopolymer stamps are a type of totally clear stamps that Stampin’ Up! has started offering. Stampin’ Up! spent a lot of time researching for the best photopolymer material to make these high quality clear stamps. A benefit of the clear nature of the stamp is that you can see when you have enough ink on the stamp and you can see exactly where the image is being placed. They are really sticky so they don’t fall off the clear acrylic blocks like the clear mount stamps sometimes do but they are easy to remove for storage.

Today I want to introduce you to two new stamp sets that are particularly designed for Christmas. The first set, Christmas Tagables (134623), is a grouping of stamps for tags. Check them out. Click on the image to view them at full size and place your order.

Christmas Tagables

The second set is Endless Wishes (133455). I love this set as it has a variety of words on separate stamps so you can create your own greeting. Just imagine…unlimited possibilities to match your imagination! The set also includes three beautiful snowflakes.

There are only 10 more Saturdays until Christmas. Have you started your Christmas cards yet? Maybe tone of these sets is the one to get you going. Order it today.

MDS Monday Challenge 35 – Now You’re Cookin’

My Version

The Sketch

This is another MDS Monday Challenge scrapbook page for you. The challenge was to create a page that is monochromatic with just a pop of color.

We have taken a couple of little road trips while visiting our son who lives outside Boston. Last week we drove up to Franconia Notch in New Hampshire. We had dinner at The Common Man of Lincoln, a unique restaurant in Lincoln, New Hampshire. Our older daughter and her husband encouraged us to look for unique and interesting places to eat while traveling and this place fits the bill perfectly.

The Common Man of Lincoln is in an old farmhouse that is decorated with well-loved antiques and furnishings of the period. The menu offers many interesting dishes. Ron chose Portsmouth Pie, filled with lobster, shrimp, and scallops in a lobster sauce and topped with bread crumbs. I had lobster/corn chowder and butternut squash filled ravioli in a maple sauce topped with toasted walnuts and dried cranberries. The food was absolutely wonderful.

Then the tab was brought to the table in an old book. Chunks of white chocolate were served in place of the traditional after-dinner mints. The meal was a delightful way to spend a couple hours!

I created this scrapbook page to help preserve the memories of the evening. One of the benefits of using MDS and digital scrapbooking is that you have access to a wealth of stamp brush sets, papers, and embellishments with the stroke of a few keys. Here I was sitting in a motel in Bar Harbor, Maine, a long long way from home and started this page. I wanted to use multiple images of silverware in place of the chevrons on the challenge sketch but didn’t have anything like that on my computer.  I purchased and downloaded the Now You’re Cookin’ stamp brush set from Stampin’ Up! in just a matter of minutes and I was good to go.

Today is also Terrific Tuesday. That means two things. First we have new digital downloads to purchase. Go here to see them and place an order for the ones you want. Then go check out the Weekly Deals here. Supplies can be limited so go check them out now.

Have a Wonderfall Thanksgiving Canadians!

Wonderfall Kit

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian readers and friends. I hope you are having a wonderful holiday weekend with family and friends.

I created this card using the Wonderfall Designer Series Paper from the Wonderfall Kit. The pattern on the paper is scaled to a 12 x 12 page which showed little of the trees when applied to my card. I reduced the size of the design by filling a 4″ x 5.25″ rectangle with pattern 5. Then I double clicked on the rectangle and used the minus magnifying glass to reduce the scale of the design. I love this feature of MDS where the scale of a pattern can be reduced to fit your design needs. If you haven’t tried this yourself, I encourage you to do so. Contact me if you need help with this feature.

MDS Monday Challenge 34 – Digital Baby Card

MDS Morning Challenge 34

It is time for another MDS Monday sketch challenge. This is the sketch and the challenge is to use an embellishment you don’t usually use.

Digital Baby CardThis is my version of the sketch. I have had the Storytime Ensemble for a long time and haven’t used it. So the bunny counts as the embellishment challenge. I love the softness of the colors and I guess I created the card for a new baby boy. Now all I have to do is find someone who has a new baby boy. Or…I could change the background color to a lovely pink and give it to a new baby girl. By using MDS, it is a simple couple of keystrokes to change the color. :o)

Since I have a thing about backgrounds not being plain, I added the Hip and Handsome Overlays pattern 10 and changed the color to Chocolate Chip. Now I have a unique polka dotted designer series paper with me being the designer! ;o)

Tip:  I have discovered that overlays really slow down updates on your card when you add new elements to the project so I wait until the very last step to add the overlay.

I filled the flag punch with papers from the Nursery Designer Series Papers and used Welcome Baby greeting from the Sweetness Unlimited stamp set recolored to Chocolate Chip.

The chicks border was created with another embellishment in the Storytime Ensemble. I just copy and pasted the image of three chicks across the top of the card.

If you want to create this card for yourself and need some of the supplies I used, just click on the links below or visit my online store. I really appreciate your business.

Happy World Card-Making Day

Grateful Hearts Frameables

The day is almost over but I hope you took some time to create a card today in honor of World Card-Making Day. I had a busy day getting the house organized and packing for a trip to Boston to see the Fall colors (and to visit our son). Finally after dinner I took time to create this digital card with MDS.

If you haven’t tried creating with MDS, let me tell you a few things I love about it. First, all my stamping supplies are packed in boxes in a very crowded stamp room. But with MDS, all I had to do was open the program on my computer and begin creating. There was no hunting for stamps, paper, and ink.

Secondly, I could not decide which designer series paper I wanted to use. I went through several different options before coming up with this one. I didn’t waste any of my precious dsp in this process.

Thirdly, when I finished the card, I didn’t have to do any clean up. All I have to do is close out the program. Well…if I wanted to make this into a hybrid card, I would have to get out some Whisper White card stock to print it on and some Baked Brown Sugar card stock for the base. Then I would have some clean-up to do.

Finally, since I am submitting this card to Stampin’ Up!’s World Card-Making Day contest, all I have to do is attach it to an email. I didn’t have to scan the card or take a picture and upload to my computer.

Now you need to experience for yourself these benefits of creating with MDS. Click on one of the links below to order your copy. I am here to help you get started and answer any questions you may have.

MDS Monday – Spooky Bingo Bits

Spooky Bingo Bits

The challenge for this card was to use an oversized image and a border on a greeting card. A Halloween theme immediately came to mind so I went to my arsenal of Halloween files in my MDS program. I chose the Spooky Bingo Bits bat for my oversized image and a Tasteful Trim Border punch filled with Tangerine Tango color. Red Sara’s Sequins add a spooky gleam to the bat’s eyes.

The bat is on a mat of a square punch filled with Basic Grey and the Convention 2012 Curvy Frame punch filled with Tangerine Tango. I always like to add overlays to my backgrounds for added texture so I used the Vintage Overlay Texture 11 stamp. I resized it to just fit the Basic Grey square.

Fitting in a greeting on this card is a challenge. I decided to go with simple lettering placed on the border using the Alphabet Soup punches.

Have you tried creating with MDS? Some of the reasons I love it are that I can change my mind and play around with the design elements without wasting any card stock and when I am finished with a project, there is no clean up time. All I have to do is save the project. I can send it by email to a friend. I can print it out and it is done. Or I can print out just the card front and mount it on card stock for a hybrid card. You can order your copy of the program for just $19.95 or you can even give it a try for free for 30 days.I thing you will enjoy it as much as I do. Click on one of the links below to place your order.

A Christmas card using Mosaic Madness?

If you come this afternoon the the Craig/Klawock stampers group at 1:30 pm at Dina’s place you will get to make a Christmas card using the Mosaic Madness stamp set. How do you ask? Where is the sample? Well, darn it…I forgot to take a picture of the sample before mailing it off to Craig! I guess you will just have to come to the workshop to see what this is all about.

We will also be making envelopes from designer series paper using the new Envelope Punch Board. I have sent a couple of samples with directions on how you can also use this punch board to make a box that will hold up to 8 cards with their envelopes and a holiday wrap for a candy bar treat. This is what the punch board looks likeEnvelope Punch Board
You can make up to 66 different sizes of envelopes. To seal the envelopes use SNAIL adhesive (be sure to burnish the adhesive well), 2-Way glue, or Sticky Strip. The measurements and cutting guide is right on the board. The opposite side of the punch is a corner rounder that makes a perfect mat to the 3/16″ corner punch. The $19.95 price is so reasonable for all the fun you will have making one-of-a-kind envelopes from designer series papers! Order your punch here.

Terrific Tuesday – 2013-2015 In Color ruffle Trim

One of the new downloads today is the 2013-2015 In Color Ruffle Trim. I enjoy using it with traditional stamping and am delighted that it is now available in digital form. Furthermore, I was surprised that the download includes a circle frame and a flower created with the ruffle trim, very cool. I had the perfect picture of my college freshman granddaughter to put in the frame and this scrapbook page was the outcome.

frame made with 2013-2015 In Color Ruffle Trim

For some reason the MDS program only offered an oval shape when I changed the shape of the photo so I went with that. Had to change the shape of the circle frame but it works. Our granddaughter’s house at college had a function where they all dressed like flappers. I think she nailed the look. Of course, I had to add a vintage overlay! I used the Decorative Overlays – flourishes and changed the color to Early Espresso to keep with the vintage look. The background is Very Vanilla. I am so delighted with how this page turned out! Check out the new downloads for today and order your favorites here.

Remembering 9/11

I have been thinking about what I want to say today in remembering 9/11 and the people who died that day. To the families of those who died, the memories may be still very painful.

I just saw a video I want to share here because it honors a lot of ordinary people who accomplished an extraordinary feat on that infamous day. As you remember all those who died, also give thanks to those unsung heroes who helped thousands who lived through the horror of that day. Watch the video and say a prayer of thanks.
