Lattice Die Easter Card

Lattice Die Cross cardDid you know that if you trim the Lattice Die diecut, you can end up with this lovely cross? The Craig/Klawock Card Exchange group created this card at their March meeting. We used the Lattice Bigz Die to cut Brushed Gold card stock and then trimmed it down to make this cross. I didn't buy the wonderful Easter single stamp in the Spring catalog so had to use this one that is retired. I still love the message it brings. I embossed it with Gold Embossing powder and punched it out with my favorite Decorative Label Punch.

The background behind the cross is a piece of the Sale-A-Bration Sycamore Street Designer Series Paper. I used the Bitty Butterfly Punch to punch out scraps of the Brushed Gold card stock.

Bunny Butt Easter Treat Toppers

Bunny in Hole

I love this little Easter bunny in his bunny hole punch art. I adapted a card created by Tara Bazata to make these toppers for the treats I am sending two of our great-granddaughters. I used the 1 3/4" circle punch for the bunny's body and to punch out the hole. Both his feet and ears are made with the large oval punch and the retired smaller oval punch. His face is the ornament punch, his cheeks are 3/4" circle punches and his nose is the smallest heart of the retired Three Hearts punch. To save time, I just drew on his eyes and whiskers. The original card had punched black circles and linen thread for the whiskers. His tail was punched with the scalloped circle in the Itty Bitty Punch set. Finally, I punched out the greeting with the Ticket Duo Builder Punch. I made a total of 16 toppers. Once I got the first done, the rest went quite quickly. They had to as I am definitely a procrastinator when I am stamping something that has to get in the mail! Order the supplies to make this cute bunny topper by clicking on the items in the supply list or visiting my online store 24/7.

Have a joyful and blessed Easter,

Happy Easter Everybunny!

Everybunny
I love the bunnies that are part of the Everything Easter Ensemble. Actually, I really like all the parts of this ensemble. The Everything Easter Ensemble was released prior to the release of MDS2 so the stamps could not be colored in. Instead, they included a colored paint layer for each of the stamps. You added the colored paint layer to your project and then the stamp. By grouping the two, you end up with a colored in image.

This past week Marie Drahorad shared a tutorial on how to use designer series paper to color a stamp. Essentially, what you do is add a punch filled with your designer series paper behind the stamp. You use the freeform brush to color the areas of the punch outside the stamp with the background color.

For this card, I created a rhomboid punch about the size and shape of the bunny's dress and filled it with pattern 6 of the Springtime Vintage designer series paper. I used the freeform brush to color 'outside the lines' with the background colors and to color her shoes and the basket of eggs. I added the pattern 10 of the Hip and Handsome Overlays colored Primrose Petals to the Blushing Bride background for some added depth and texture in the background.

Here is a picture showing the projects you get with the Everything Easter Ensemble. What doesn't show is all the stamps, embellishments, and even an egg punch that come with the kit. You can get an idea of the designer series papers from the designs of the eggs. It is not too late to order this kit and create your own Easter decor. All you need is MDS, some Whisper White cardstock, a printer, adhesive, and some scissors.

Have a wonderful and blessed Easter,
Sue Erickson

Ears to You Diorama Easter Card

Ears to You Easter cardI love this Easter card the ladies in Thorne Bay made last week. I combined the Ears to You bunnies, the Cloudy Day embossing folder, a sheet of Sunshine & Sprinkles Designer Series Paper, and two sizes of the Labels Collection Framelits to make this great diorama card. The leaves are punched with the Bird Punch and the flowers are in the Secret Garden stamp set and the now retired Bloomin' Marvelous SAB stamp set.

This Ears to You stamp is one of the single stamps that are currently available. But…these stamps are only available through March 31! Check out the flyers below to see pictures of the single stamps and then place your order here. Sunday is the last day to order them so act now!

Happy Birthday, Harry Houdini

Harry HoudiniToday is the anniversary of the birth of Harry Houdini. Houdini is famous for his ability to escape from any amount of chains and bindings, even being bound up with chains and being held head down in a tank of water.

You, too, can be an escape artist! How? By spending time creating beautiful cards and other art projects using rubber stamps, ink, scissors, glue, and card stock. Yes…you too can escape the humdrum or hectic pace of your life for a while and enjoy the creative process of rubber stamping.

I would love to show you how so check out my class schedule or gather some friends and I'll come to your house and hold a workshop for you.

Terrific Tuesday – Top Notch Woodcuts

Top Notch Woodcuts scrapbook page

I love this template from the new digital download Top Notch Woodcuts (133896)! I had hoped that the small triangles were a stamp brush set but they are Freehand Frames – triangles. Each one was copied and pasted by the Stampin' Up! designer! Wow, what a lot of work they did. I had planned on using the pieces to make an original scrapbook page for this photo of one of our great-grandkids after showing the template as it downloaded. However, I like this one so much that all I did was to resize it from 12" x 12" to an 8" x 8" page and to change out the woodcut over the photo from 'awesome' to 'True Story'. Click here to see the other new downloads for today.

One thing I absolutely love about MDS is that you can change your mind repeatedly and not be wasting card stock. This template comes as a 12 x 12 page. I don't have a printer that can print out that size so I first changed it to 8 1/2" x 11". I didn't like that so I changed it back to a 12 x 12. Then I changed it to 8" x 8" which worked out well. All this changing took maybe 5 minutes, just a fraction of the time it would have taken in traditional scrapbooking!

Time is running out for my virtual workshop! Place your order for $50 or more and earn a free Sale-a-Bration item. There are 2 digital content discs, Lemonade Stand and Big Sale-A-Bration, among the many free items. For every three $50 orders, I will draw a mystery hostess from the names of those placing orders. Place your order through my online store. After you put your first item in your bag, a box in the lower left corner asking if you have a hostess code. Enter this code there. 3SWVFAE2

Thanks for stopping by to visit today. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and take a break from your day to browse my blog. If you like what you see, subscribe to my newsletter by filling out the form to the right. Once a month I will email you the News from My Digital Craft Corner newsletter and a short mid-month email about some special or a tip or video I think you would like. Petal Cone Easter Basket and a tip

Petal Cone Bigz L Die Basket

The ladies in our Craig/Klawock card group made this darling Easter Basket on Sunday. It is made using the Petal Cone Bigz L die. Yes, it is! Here is how:

1. Cut out two of the dies and fold them in half along the long score line.

2.  Place the score line by the petals on the 2" mark of a Stampin' Trimmer and score the die cut. Turn the die cut over and do the same thing on the other side.

3.  Repeat with the other die cut.

4.  Now place the score line by the petals on the 3" mark and cut the point of the die cut off.

5.  With a pair of scissors, cut up from the bottom cutting line to score line you made in step 2. Trm off the narrow flap at the score line.

6. Put your basket together with sticky tape, folding up the bottom flaps. Be careful to keep the basket square.

7. Cut a strip of designer series paper 3/4" x 9" for the handle and secure with glue dots.

8. Cut two of the large Delicate Doilies, cut them in half, and adhere them to the basket flaps.

9. Decorate your basket as desired.

Now for the tip! To get the Delicate Doilies to cut cleanly through, you need to run the die and paper through the Big Shot back and forth several times. It is important to have relatively unscored cutting plates for this process! I used the original ones that came with my Big Shot several years ago and they were deeply scored. That scoring caused marks on the card stock and deep marks in the foam of my die. I discovered that if you gently heat the foam with your heat tool, those marks will almost disappear. You have to be very careful to not apply the heat too long at any one time and not be too close or you might melt the foam. However, it really did smooth out the foam on my die significantly!!!

I colored the 5/8" Flower Trim by filling a Stampin' Spritzer about 3/4 full with 70% rubbing alcohol and added about 10 drops of So Saffron refill ink. Then I sprayed the flowers.

Now for the list of supplies for the basket:

Tea for Two Designer Series Paper (129311)
Whisper White Card Stock 8 1/2" x 11" (100730)
So Saffron Classic Ink Refill (105225)
Petal Cone Bigz L Die (121810)
Delicate Doilies Sizzlit (126999)
Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (113439)
5/8" Flower Trim (126869)
Marina Mist 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon (119257)
Stampin' Trimmer (126889)
Stampin' Spritzer (126185)

To order these supplies or any other supplies you need, either click on the lins or visit my online store. I am holding a virtual workshop which ends tomorrow evening. Use this hostess code 3SWVFAE2 when placing your order and when the workshop total reaches $150, your name will be put into a drawing to be the mystery hostess. Big Changes for My Digital Studio-Starting Today! (Updated 11:30 AM)

March 18, 2013

We've been working on some big changes to the My Digital Studio product line, and we just can't contain ourselves anymore.

Starting today:

  1. We've changed the name of the software from MDS 2 (and MDS 2+) to MDS.
  2. We've lowered the price. What has been known as MDS 2+ is now $19.95 US/$24.95 CAN.

Coming soon:

  1. The upgrade will be free! If you (or your customers) have been holding onto the original My Digital Studio software, they will be able to upgrade to the new software for free. We will let you know when it is available. We have discontinued the item number for the MDS 2 Upgrade (item 130650), so if your customers ask, let them know that the upgrade will be available soon for free.
  2. We have announced that My Digital Studio will soon be available to our friends in Australia and New Zealand.

Other information:

  • MyDigitalStudio.net is currently under construction as we make all of the changes. Just keep in mind that you may see outdated information for awhile.
  • We will remove the My Digital Studio Catalog at the end March from MyDigitalStudio.net. If you would like to keep of copy of it, go grab it before then. As we announced last fall, we have not been maintaining this file and since it so outdated, we feel like it's time to delete it.
  • We understand that when a price changes after you have made a recent purchase it can be frustrating. If you  purchased the software at the old price from March 1 to March 17, 2013, the following will be added to your Download Manager by Wednesday, March 20:

    MDS 2+ or MDS 2

    • Up To Date Planner Template (item133271, retail value $14.95 US/$18.50 CAN)
    • Hello There Kit (item 133374, retail value $9.95 US/$12.50 CAN)

Happy Plant a Flower Day! Yep…today is Plant a Flower Day and boy do we need flowers here in SE Alaska. Last week was sunny and you could feel spring in the air. This week we are having snow showers…go figure! Typical SE Alaska spring weather.

So what kind of flower would you plant? I love hydrangeas and would plant one of those if we weren't in temporary housing. Instead, I created this card with the hydrangea from the Best of Flowers stamp collection. This is Stampin' Up!'s 25 year anniversary and they have gone into their stamp vaults and brought out the best stamps in each category to create an anniversary stamp set. Each month they offer us a new set and in that set is a stamp that has never been seen before. Click here to see the sets released so far.

The Vine Street embossing folder and the Bloomin' Marvelous stamp set are two of the items you can choose when you order $50 of product during Sale-a-bration. There are only 10 days left in Sale-a-bration so order now through my online store. I don't want you to miss out on this great opportunity to stock up on card stock, adhesives, and supplies and get free exclusive product at the same time. Check out the Sale-a-bration offerings below. If you want two items, then buy $100 in product. Order $150 in product, get 3 items and get $25 in hostess benefits!

Swallowtail Butterfly

Swallowtail Butterfly downloadSupplies: MDS2+ (130646), MDS2 (130644), MDS2 upgrade (130650), or 30-day FREE trial of MDS2 (130910); Background – Wisteria Wonder; Stamp Brush Sets – Swallowtail Butterfly (133011), Natural Composition Overlays – 12 (130855), Thoughts and Prayers – Thinking of You (comes with MDS1); Embellishments – Timeless Taffeta Trimmings (131329)

This card is a good one to make for those just starting out with MDS2 as there are very few steps in making it. I started with a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" portrait card and added Wisteria Wonder card stock. Then I applied this lovely lacy Natural Composition Overlays pattern 12 and colored it Very Vanilla. I was pleasantly surprised at the results. Next I added the Swallowtail Butterfly which was a new download last week  and resized it to fit on the card. I changed the color to Whisper White and rotated it. I added the greeting from Thoughts and Prayers leaving it black.

As a final touch I added the large bow and the ruffled bow from Timeless Taffeta Trimmings. I left the ruffled bow its original size and just moved it over to a section of the ribbon that was straight. That set of embellishments does not come in Wisteria Wonder so I started with Crumb Cake and recolored them with Wisteria Wonder.I have a couple of friends who are starting cancer treatment this month. This is a perfect card to make into a hybrid card to send to them.

Click here to see the rest of last week's downloads and here to see this week's downloads and order the ones you love.

Sunshine & Sprinkles

Sorry I was missing in action for so long. I was responsible for a craft project at a Christian Women's Retreat last Saturday and had to prepare project kits for 16 ladies. We made a darling suitcase memory box. The project was a little more detailed than was possible to finish in the allotted 45 min. Fortunately, I had typed up directions so they can finish their boxes at home. A great time of fellowship, spiritual inspiration, and fun was had by all. The theme was Journeys and the decor was filled with all kinds of maps and suitcases. There were food demonstrations from a variety of countries and crafts from many countries as well.

Now on to some digital creating. When the wind blows here, it really blows! It blows so hard that the dogs' ears get blown inside out when we take our walks. I finally got a great picture which begged to be scrapped.

I love the Sunshine & Sprinkles Designer Series Paper (130670) and the clouds pattern suggested a windy day to me. I filled the Thought Window Punch from Celebrate Any Day Greeting Card Templates (127757) with Very Vanilla color and reduced the opacity to 80%. The title was created with the Love Birds Alpahbet and Numbers stamp brush set from the Love Birds Digital Kit (124443). I used the Handwriting – Dakota font for the journaling.

I am trying to build up the number of people who 'like' my business FaceBook page so that I can qualify for FaceBook Insights. Please go like my page if you haven't done so already. Thanks!

Thanks for stopping by to visit. Come back tomorrow to see what new downloads catch my eye.

Until your next visit…blessings,

The Open Sea

Brian's BD card front 2-13 Brian's BD card inside 2-13

In last night's blog post I shared these pictures of this Pop 'n Cut card and talked about the wonders of the Dress Form Pop 'n Cuts and Card Base Pop 'n Cuts dies. Today I want to focus on the stamp set The Open Sea (w-123030, c-123032).

I like this set for several reasons. First, I live on an island in SE Alaska and boats, ships, and ferries are our way of life. There is something very romantic about sailing ships and they speak of adventure.

I love the vintage look of this stamp set as well. Stamp in in Crumb Cake, Basic Grey, or one of our wonderful blue inks. I stamped the compass with Pacific Point ink but stamping it with one of the red inks would also be very vintage.

Finally, I love the versatility of The Open Sea stamp set. It could be used on a Bon Voyage card, on travel scrapbook pages, or for a masculine birthday card like this one. Check out the different images in the index below and then click on the links above to order the set. While you are in my online store, remember to order stamping supplies you are running low on. I appreciater your business.

The Open Sea Pop ‘n Cut Brithday Card

The Open Sea Pop 'n Cut card front The Open Sea Pop 'n Cut card inside

Supplies: Dress Form Pop 'n Cuts die (130100), Card Base Pop 'n Cuts die (130099), The Open Sea stamp set (w-123030, c-123032), Sunshine & Sprinkles Designer Series Paper (126922), Apothecary Accents Framelits (127003), Window Frames Collection Framelits (129021), Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (113439)

I am so excited to share this card with you! The Dress Form Die and the Card Base Pop 'n Cut die have so much potential. I needed to make a birthday card for my son and had not used this wonderful and romantic The Open Sea stamp set yet. Actually, I have had my eye on it ever since the 2012-2013 catalog came out but just hadn't purchased it until last month. The ribbon is from the Sycamore Street Ribbon and Button Pack (130812) which you can get for FREE with a $50 purchase during Sale-A-Bration.

Have I convinced you that the Dress Form die and the Pop 'n Cuts die are well worth the price because they open a whole new area of creativity for you? You can use them as the support for all kinds of pop-ups. Check out this blog post, and this one for more ideas. Then order them. Order any of the supplies I used to create this card by clicking on the linked item names of by visiting my online store.
