Washi Wednesday – Reverse Washi Tech

Reverse Washi cardSome time back, I had a customer ask me for different ways to use Washi tape. As a response, I created Washi Wednesday where I have been sharing different ways to use this semi-transparent and repositionable tape. You can see previous Washi Wednesday posts here, here, here, and here.

Today I have another card using Washi tape. The technique this time is called Reverse Washi and uses the new Sweet Sophie Designer Washi Tape. To do this technique, apply different patterns of Washi tape to the front of your card. Ideally you would apply them to a layer for the card front, not on the Whisper White card base like I did. Then you punch out or use a framelit to make a cutout in the card front. I used one of the Apothecary Accents Framelits. The official directions say to lightly trace around the cutout and then stamp your greeting in the tracing on the inside of your card. I just stamped through the cutout using the When my mind… from Bloom with Hope, a Hostess stamp set. However, the stamping was crooked! Don’t you just hate that? What I did to fix it was to stamp the greeting on another piece of Whisper White card stock and sponged around it with a little Pistachio Pudding ink. I then mounted this to the inside of the card centering the greeting in the cutout. Here is the inside of the card.

Terrific Tuesday – Cool Like That Giftables

Cool Like That Giftable Templates BoxesThis Cool Like That Giftable Templates (136573) digital download for MDS is one of the nine new downloads that were released for June. Like I said last week, Stampin’ Up! is changing the focus a little in it’s MDS offerings and instead of releasing new downloads each Tuesday, they are releasing a group of them on the first Tuesday of each month and have more MDS downloads featured in the annual catalog. I will feature one of those downloads each Tuesday of the rest of the month.

I fell in love with this download when I saw samples made with it in the 2014-2015 annual catalog and it is the first one I ordered this month. I received a Silhouette Cameo e-cutter from Ron for Christmas and am just starting to learn how to use it. This Cool Like That Giftables Templates is perfect to use with an e-cutter. Stampin’ Up! has designed many downloads to be used either with an e-cutter or to cut out by hand. They even have an e-cutter category for those files in the online MDS catalog.

These templates can make either little bags or boxes. There are perforated lines on the sides to facilitate making the box into a bag. Some of the stamps in the kit can be added to the bag/box punches and when sent to the e-cutter, these stamps can be cut out like the samples I have in the photo. When you do this, be aware of which part of the box/bag will be the front. In the case of the samples, I paced the stamp on the same side as the flap so I couldn’t make it a bag with the flap folding down over the opening.

I urge you to purchase this Cool Like that Giftable Templates download by clicking on the link or visiting my online store. Have fun seeing what you can create with it. Remember that you can print the project on cardstock or designer series paper and cut them out by hand. You don’t have to have an e-cutter to enjoy the download.

Hamburger Box Deluxe

With the new Hamburger Box Bigzs Die (133724), the lowly hamburger take-out box has been elevated to a work of art! Check out this darling little hamburger gift box I made last night with the the die and  the Flower Frenzy Bigz Die (133728) . It is just toooo cute! I cut it out of some new Lullaby Designer Series Paper (133695).

Hamburger Box dieThis little box measures about 3 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ x 1 3/4″ tall and is perfect for a small gift or some candy treats. Imagine the surprise if someone opened this little box to find one of the expensive chocolate truffles nestled inside. What a great way to present something like that.

I have a couple of tips for you to make putting this box together easily.

  • If you are using designer series paper, be sure to put the side you want on the outside of your box down against the die. This way the score lines are on the outside. You want to fold away from the score lines.
  • Make crisp folds.
  • Use small dots of the Liquid Multipurpose Glue on the triangular corners.
  • Use Sticky Strip on the bottom front flaps or the glue if you prefer it.
  • Make sure the slots on the front of the lid are open. You can insert the tip of your Paper Snips into to open the slot a little wider.
  • Fold the triangular flaps on the front of the lid so they are lying along the inside sides of the lid so they are not in the way of the slots.

This little hamburger box is so cute you don’t even have to dress it up much. Just cut it out of any designer series paper and tie a ribbon around it. Here is another example using the Blackberry Bliss pattern from the Park Lane Designer Series Paper (133694).

My Digital Studio Monday – New In Colors

digital card using the new Stampin' Up! In ColorsGood news…Stampin’ Up! has already updated MDS with the new 2014-2016 In Colors. However, what is great about MDS is that the 2012-2014 In Colors do not retire so we still have them available for our creations. The new 2014-2016 In Colors are Mossy Meadow, Lost Lagoon, Hello Honey, Tangelo Twist, and Blackberry Bliss. I used the Mossy Meadow for the leaves of the flowers;  and Blackberry Bliss, Lost Lagoon, and Tangelo Twist for the flowers. The flower centers are Hello Honey. Don’t you just love that name? Hellooooo, honey! At this point my favorite of the new In Colors are the Mossy Meadow and Blackberry Bliss. They are such rich colors. The supplies I used to create this card are listed at the bottom of this post. To order any of the supplies you need to make this card yourself, just click on the links or visit my online store.

To get these new In Colors, open your MDS program, choose a project….you don’t even have to go as far as to name it, and then go up to the help pull-down menu on the top tool bar. Choose check for updates. The updates are freen

Washi Wednesday – Great Tip

Washi Tape TabsThe new 2014-2015 Stampin’ Up! catalog is coming soon and I have a great use of Washi tape for your catalog. Yep…use it to flag the pages that have items you want to order. Or…you could make the tabs for the different sections of the catalog and use a marker to label the tabs. These tabs are definitely more colorful than plain ones you buy from an office supply store.

Oops…I almost showed you a couple of pages of the catalog but I’m not allowed to until you can see the catalog online on June 2. Browsing through the catalog online is fine but how very much more delightful to have one to hold in your hands and to cherish! :o)  If you would like a free catalog, email me your phone number, time zone, and best time to call you. I’d love to have a conversation with you about how I can send you the catalog totally free! Or….you can just call me in the first place. Either way, I look forward to hearing from you and sending you a catalog. This year’s is one of the very best!

Terrific Tuesday – Giggle Greetings

Giggle Greetings stamp brush set

Hey, it’s Terrific Tuesday and we have three terrific new MDS downloads for you. I ended up getting all three but chose this one, Giggle Greetings (138005) to create this light-hearted graduation card. I colored the pup like our mini-dachshund, Scout. This was such an easy card to make. All I have to do now is to print it out as a card front and mount it on card stock for a hybrid card. It would take me less than 30 minutes total. See how easy MDS can be and how handy when you realize that you need a card at the last minute. Check out and order the new downloads by clicking on their images below.

Check out these Weekly Deals. They are only available at these prices through next Monday so be sure to stock up with these great savings.

New Photopolymer Set – Endless Birthday Wishes

Endless Birthday WishesStampin’ Up! has released a new photopolymer stamp set, Endless Birthday Wishes (137553). I absolutely LOVE the font on this stamp set. It is the same one that was in the very popular Endless Wishes set that was available last December. That set sold out within the month and I am sure this one will sell out quickly too. You need to order it right away to be sure you get it!

I am sure you are wondering what is so great about Stampin’ Up!’s photopolymer stamps. First, Stampin’ Up! searched and searched for a photopolymer compound that would hold up to stamping for a long time and not break down in a short period of time like some of the other photopolymer stamps. They also were looking for a photopolymer that would not yellow or get excessively stained over time. They did not make clear stamps until they were confident that the material met their strict quality requirements.

Now for some benefits of photopolymer stamps:

    • They stick really well to clear blocks but can still be easily peeled off when you are finished with the stamp.
    • You can see through the stamp to see if you have it inked up well.
    • You can see exactly where the image will be stamped.
    • It easy to create a unique greeting for your card as you can combine several stamps on one block and easily line them up because you can see the image.

Give photopolymer stamps a try by ordering Endless Birthday Wishes before the set sells out. Click on the link!

Shaped Card – The Open Sea

The Open Sea shaped hybrid cardThe current MDS Monday challenge is to create a shaped hybrid card. I needed a couple of graduation cards and decided this challenge was the perfect time to get these cards made. I chose to use The Open Sea stamp brush set (124112) for this project. I opened an 8 1/2″ x 11″ portrait blank scrapbook page and added this image to the work space. I then set the dimensions to 5 1/2″ wide and colored the image. I added Very Vanilla cardstock to the background although I really didn’t need to since I was going to print it out on Very Vanilla card stock.

Since I wanted two cards, I copied and pasted the image on the same page. I printed it out on Very Vanilla card stock. This gave me my card front. For the card base, I folded an 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ sheet of Very Vanilla card stock in half and oriented it landscape way. I held up this folded piece of card stock and the card front to a window so I could position the fold just at the top of the sails and taped the two together. I then cut the image out through both the card front and the card base. All that was left to do is glue the two together.

I created the greeting on the computer and printed it out on vellum paper. I adhered it to the card with tape designed for adhering vellum. Sorry but all the information on the roll of take is that it is scrapbook tape. I have had it a looong time and forget where I got it.

I really love the way this card turned out. I challenge you to make a hybrid shaped card using MDS for your image. If you do, send me a photo of it and I’ll share it here. You could say that you had been published. :o)
